Using opera as a foundation for creative collaboration, students write an original libretto and musical score that culminates in a performance for peers and parents. Opera blends music, text, drama, fine art and movement into an integrated whole—an excellent vehicle for learning through the arts. Organic in nature, this K–12 program never fails to produce outcomes that reflect deep learning, plants seeds for future learning, and provides an opportunity for rich and complex self-discovery for students and teachers.
Three one-day, teacher-friendly workshops spread across the school year introduce teachers to the Music! Words! Opera! program. There, they receive additional teaching materials (including student workbooks and professional curriculum binders from Opera America) and have the opportunity to collaborate with peers and Music Mentors from Northeast Ohio. Our staff leads and facilitates multiple sessions at your school, for the duration of the program.
*Professional development credits for teachers are available
